We often hear stories about absent fathers. This isn’t one of them.

This is for the dads who quietly show up, every single day.

Life, as a woman, is hard.

Life as a mom? Even harder.

Life as a mom of twins… especially when you’ve got two threenagers running the show? That’s a completely different league.

Throw in perimenopause, the uncertainty of not knowing how much longer you’ll have a job, and the unsettling feeling of watching the world become more unpredictable by the day, and some mornings it feels like you’re waking up already exhausted.

And yet…
In the middle of all that chaos, I have my rock.
My husband.
The best father our children could have ever been lucky enough to call Dad.

Looking back, I shouldn’t be surprised.
Even during pregnancy, he carried as much of the load as he possibly could. He worried, he showed up, he protected me in every way he knew how. I remember thinking, he’s going to be a good dad.
What I didn’t know was just how naturally fatherhood would fit him.

Watching him become “Dad” has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.

Now, let’s not romanticize things.
We disagree.
Often.
Our parenting styles are… let’s call them complementary.
Or, if we’re being completely honest…
Good Cop.
Bad Cop.
We take turns deciding who’s who.
We argue.
Sometimes daily.
Mostly because we’re both tired.
Occasionally because one of us believes the twins absolutely don’t need a fifth snack before dinner.
And sometimes…
just because parenting is hard.

When the twins were born, we had a running joke.
“If we don’t get divorced during our first year as parents, we’re basically superheroes.”
Well…
The twins are three now.
We’re still married.
We still argue.
But we also laugh.
Almost every day.
And somehow, the laughter always wins.

People often talk about finding “the one.”
I don’t know if there’s such a thing.
But I do know this.
Choosing each other every single day…
especially on the days when you’re sleep-deprived, overwhelmed, running on cold coffee and surviving on toddler leftovers…
that’s real love.

Would I divorce him?
Only on weekdays.
Never on weekends.
Because despite the disagreements…
despite the exhaustion…
despite the endless negotiations over vegetables, bedtime and whose turn it is to clean up yet another mysterious sticky substance…
he keeps choosing us.
He keeps choosing this family.
And so do I.

Parenting is hard.
Whether you have one child, two, three or more.
Nobody warns you how much you’ll miss the freedom you once took for granted.
Or how you’ll occasionally forget why you walked into a room.
Or, in my case lately…
what I was even about to say.
But if there’s one thing these past few years have taught me, it’s this:
The greatest gift isn’t having a perfect marriage.
It’s having someone who’s willing to stand beside you while you both figure it out.
Messily.
Loudly.
Imperfectly.
With healthy values.
With respect.
With integrity.
With far too much cold coffee.
And with enough laughter to remind you why you chose each other in the first place.

To my husband…
Thank you for staying.
Thank you for showing up.
Thank you for being my safe place.
And thank you for being exactly the father our twins needed.
I honestly couldn’t have chosen a better teammate for this wonderfully chaotic adventure we call family.

I’m curious – what is one thing your partner does that makes parenting just a little bit easier?
